CMN Tumor
By Philip E. Gleason, MD
Congenital Mesoblastic Nephroma is a rare tumor of the kidney in infants. We will provide introductory information regarding congenital Mesoblastic Nephromas.
Congenital Mesoblastic Nephromas usually present in infancy. They usually present as an abdominal or renal mass. They may be picked up on in-utero ultrasounds. They are a relatively benign stromal tumor of the kidney and usually do not metastasize or spread around the body. They can however become relatively large and invade into tissues around the kidney. Removal of the tumor and kidney is typically curative without further chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
